Yilong (GJ-1) Drone
Yilong drone (GJ-1) has been commissioned
The news website of Russian Military Industry Complex says in its report on February 6 that Yilong drone has been commissioned in PLA and given the codename of GJ-1. It is a world first-class drone and by no means inferior to any US drones of the same class.
GJ-1 is installed with a 100-hp piston engine, able to fly to the height of 5,300 meters and have a range of 4,000 km. It is 9 meters long with a wingspan of 14 meters, similar in size and shape respectively to US MQ-1 and MQ-9 Predators. It weighs 1.1 ton.
The weapons it can choose draw much attention. They are: the SDBI/II small-diameter bomb similar to US GBU-39/53 bomb; satellite-guided FT-7 aerial bomb (with planned maximum range of 100 km and actual range depending on the height launched from); and BRM-1 precision guided missile (with diameter of 90 mm) similar to Lockheed-Martin’s DAGR (direct attack guided rocket).
GJ-1 is very similar to Predator and able to carry out lots of similar tasks, but is much cheaper than Predator. It is expected that China may sell quite a few of them on world market.
