C-919 Airliner begins first assembly

CCTV primetime news shows footage of the beginning of general assembly of a prototype of C919 large airliner in Shanghai.
C919 is a large single-aisle airliner with 168 seats developed by China on its own.
The work being done today is to connect the front and middle parts of the fuselage.
All the other large sections of the aircraft including nose, tail and rear part of fuselage have been shipped to the general assembly workshop in Shanghai.
Wu Guanghui, chief designer of the aircraft, says “The general assembly being done is the first step to turn the parts into a final product. We plan to conduct maiden flight in 2015.”
