Dream comes true: Zhao Deli, 40, took off with his homemade drone.<br />

A homemade 'flying motorcycle' has taken to the skies, with its inventor on board. <br />
Zhao Deli, 40, was lifted into the air by eight propellers in Tangxia town, Dongguan city, south China's Guangdong province.<br />
Mr Zhao designed and built the drone himself and - dressed in an 
all-black protective suit - embarked on the extraordinary flight test on
 Monday.  <br />

The drone's propellers are affixed to a central frame which is designed to be as lightweight as possible. <br />
The aircraft has a motor installed under the seat, which provides the power for the drone while the rider perches at the top.<br />
Before Monday's flight, the amateur inventor had put the unusual 
aircraft under unmanned tests for 1,559 times in the space of two years.<br />
<br />
With the eight propellers stirring the air and the motor roaring, Mr 
Zhao's flying vehicle successfully carried him into the air. <br />
After a safe landing onto the ground, the excited Mr Zhao told a reporter from <a class="externalLink" href="http://uav.huanqiu.com/hyg/2018-07/12568596.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Guangzhou Daily</a>: 'It was like riding a motorbike in the sky. <br />
'My dream has come true after this 1560th flight test.'  <br />

A video on Chinese news site <a class="externalLink" href="https://www.sohu.com/a/242570889_479449" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">Sohu</a> shows the man leaning forward with his hands on a control panel at the front of his contraption.<br />
Seconds later, all eight propellers start to spin and lift Mr Zhao into the air.<br />
The man-carrying quadcopter levitates in the sky and lands safely on the ground.<br />
He has named the drone 'Jin Dou Yun' or 'Magical Cloud' - a flying cloud
 ridden by China's very own fictional superhero, Monkey King.<br />
<br />
Mr Zhao claimed the flying bike could carry a load of between 110 and 220 pounds (50 and 100 kilograms).<br />
Its maximum takeoff weight of 564 pounds (256 kilograms), top speed of 
44 mph (70 km/h) and battery life of 30 minutes make it a market leader,
 said Mr Zhao. <br />
Mr Zhao was born in a village in south China's Hunan Province. Like most
 boys, he has always dreamt of flying in the sky one day. <br />
He aced in science subjects at school and enjoyed fixing electrical appliances at home. <br />
<br />
In 2008, Mr Zhao set up a company to sell the drones he invented 
himself. By then he had invented five drone models, including a petrol 
drone.<br />
Two years ago, Mr Zhao read about a hovering surfboard in Canada, and 
that was where he got the inspiration for the 'flying motorbike'.<a class="externalLink" href="http://uav.huanqiu.com/hyg/2018-07/12568596.html" rel="nofollow" target="_blank"> </a> <br />
Despite his enthusiasm, Mr Zhao's road to success was by no means smooth. <br />
<br />
He experienced countless failures while trying to make the unmanned 
aircraft airbourne during the 1,559 flight tests; he even had to sell 
his house and borrow money from friends in order to fund his project, it
 is reported. <br />
The inventor was ecstatic after Monday's flight.<br />
He said he hoped to fly across China's Yellow River on the aircraft. <br />
He also planned to modify the 'flying motorbike' before launching it as a commercial product on the market.   <br />

The futuristic-looking 
personal aviation vehicle designed purely for consumer needs was 
developed at the Silicon Valley-based Opener, by a team led by Canadian 
entrepreneur Marcus Leng.<br />
Leng made the first flight of a <em>“proof-of-concept vehicle”</em>
 in his front yard in Warkworth, Ontario, Canada back in 2011, before 
relocating his company to California to pursue his dream of <a href="https://www.opener.aero/press/opener-unveils-first-usa-qualified-ultralight-all-electric-personal-vtol-aircraft/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">creating</a> the<em> “world’s first ultralight all-electric fixed-wing vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft.”</em><br />
<br />
Seven years on, the startup has developed a fully functional dual-wing, 
eight-rotor craft which has been tested in the air more than 1,400 
times, covering a distance of more than 12,000 miles. BlackFly is even 
packed with <em>“full amphibious capabilities”</em> and can ideally take off from any small patch of grass.<br />

Capable of covering distances of up to 25 miles at a speed of 62 mph,
 the zero-emission vehicle comes with a lot of high tech features as 
well as a supercharging mode to repower the flying machine in less than 
30 mins.<br />

While the developer claims the BlackFly is simple to 
master and requires no formal licensing in the States, operating the 
VTOL will require captains to complete the FAA Private Pilot written 
examination and pass vehicle familiarization and operator training. 
While the cost of the unit has not yet been made public, the developer 
claims the price will be <em>“competitive.”</em><br />

<em>“OPENER is 
re-energizing the art of flight with a safe and affordable flying 
vehicle that can free its operators from the everyday restrictions of 
ground transportation,”</em> said Leng. <em>“We will offer competitive pricing in an endeavor to democratize three-dimensional personal transportation."</em><br />
Eventually,
 the startup wants to create a rural/urban commuting network which would
 allow the vehicles to recharge when traveling long distances using 
renewable energy sources<br />
<em>“The future of Aviation begins today,”</em> said Alan Eustace, Director at Opener and former Senior Vice President of Knowledge at Google. <em>“The
 dream of flight, which was so difficult and expensive to obtain, will

Flying car? MIT’s new drone can fly, drive & communicate with other drones

A team of researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of 
Technology (MIT) has developed a drone prototype that can autonomously 
shift from flying to driving. The innovation comes with high hopes for 
the long-awaited flying cars of the future. </div>

By 
adding a driving platform to the bottom of a quadcopter drone, 
researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence 
Laboratory (CSAIL) <a href="http://news.mit.edu/2017/drones-drive-flying-cars-0626" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">announced</a>
 on Monday they have developed a prototype that can autonomously switch 
between flying over obstacles to driving through tight spaces that 
normal drones could not get through.<br />
<br />
<em>“The ability to both fly
 and drive is useful in environments with a lot of barriers, since you 
can fly over ground obstacles and drive under overhead obstacles,”</em> said Brandon Araki, lead author on the paper, according to the press release from MIT. <em>“Normal
 drones can't maneuver on the ground at all. A drone with wheels is much
 more mobile while having only a slight reduction in flying time.”</em><br />
<br />
While flying limits a drone’s battery life, driving is much more 
energy efficient. In their simulations, CSAIL was able to fly their 
drones for nearly 300 feet or drive them on a flat surface for 826 feet 
before the batteries ran out.<br />
After attaching the two small motors
 with wheels to the bottom of drones, the team reduced the drone’s 
maximum flying distance by 14 percent. However, since driving takes less
 battery life, the drones ended up being even more efficient.<br />
<br />
The new drones were based on Araki’s previous work developing the<em> “<a href="http://www.csail.mit.edu/node/2747" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">flying monkey</a>”</em> robot, which was able to fly, crawl and grasp objects. However, there was no way to make the drone travel autonomously.<br />

In a new <a href="http://groups.csail.mit.edu/drl/wiki/images/b/bc/Flyingdrones.pdf" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">paper</a>, Araki and a team of researchers at CSAIL developed <em>"path-planning"</em>
 algorithms to ensure that the drones avoid colliding into each other or
 any other obstacles. The drones were tested in a system that controlled
 the motions of eight drones flying and driving through a miniature 
town.<br />
In their tests, researchers gave each of the drones a 
starting position and a goal position. Their scaled version of a town 
was complete with roads, buildings, no-fly zones and other obstacles.<br />

The multi-robot path planning system allowed the drones to communicate 
with each other and chose when to switch between flying and driving in 
order to optimize battery life, speed and efficiency.<br />
The 
researchers were also able to restrict the drones from flying over 
certain areas, creating flight corridors that could become highways in 
the sky in the future. In the paper, the researchers said they envision a
 time when<em> “flying taxis”</em> could choose when to fly or drive based on how much a customer is willing to pay.<br />

CSAIL Director Daniela Rus said that creating flying cars did not involve simply <em>“[putting] wings on cars,”</em> rather it took years of research in giving flying drones the ability to drive.<br />

 we begin to develop planning and control algorithms for flying cars, we
 are encouraged by the possibility of creating robots with these 
capabilities at small scale,”</em> Rus said, according to the press release from MIT. <em>“While
 there are obviously still big challenges to scaling up to vehicles that
 could actually transport humans, we are inspired by the potential of a 
future in which flying cars could offer us fast, traffic-free 
transportation.”</em><br />

According to 
Neva Aerospace, the drone's unmanned version will be able to lift 
payloads of up to 100 kg (220 pounds) and replace craned and helicopters
 or emergency cars. </div>

 science fiction. Now a German aeronautics firm has taken a big step 
towards making it a reality.

 has successfully tested its all-electric vertical take-off-and-landing 
(VTOL) jet, stealing a march on rivals in the race to deliver the 
world's first ‘flying car.’<br />

Propelled
 by its 36 jet engines, the two-seater VTOL can reach a cruising speed 
of 300kph (186mph) and maintain that speed for an hour on a single 
charge. <br />

The firm, which has <a href="https://lilium.com/press/#investors">backing</a>
 from Skype co-founder Niklas Zennstrom, tested the aircraft's 
take-off-and-landing capabilities as well as its ability to hover and 
perform short flights. <br />
The test paves the way for Lilium to achieve its ultimate goal of developing an on-demand air taxi.<br />
In a <a href="https://lilium.com/news/">statement</a> the company said: <i>"We have solved some of the toughest engineering challenges in aviation to get to this point." </i><br />
Lilium is not the only firm developing flying car technology, however.<br />
<br />
AeroMobil <a href="https://www.aeromobil.com/official-news/detail/aeromobil-unique-limited-edition-flying-car-launched-at-top-marques-show/">announced Thursday</a>
 that it planned to take pre-orders for the “limited first edition” of 
its flying cars. The Slovakian firm is confident its car – priced 
between €1.2mn and €1.5mn can be delivered by 2020.<br />

everything is safe — sort of like an air traffic controller at an

 the successful test programs of their concept vehicles in 2009 and 
2012, PAL-V started designing the commercial products that were launched
 today.</div>

'While other flying car 
manufacturers' concepts require modified regulations and in many cases 
not yet existing technologies, PAL-V deliberately chose to engineer, 
design and build a flying car with proven technologies and fully 
compliant with existing regulations,' the firm said.<span style="font-size: 1.2em;"> </span></div>

'This leads to a first product delivery date that is realistic and imminent.' </div>

'Later
 in 2017 we will start building a preproduction series followed by the

Deliveries of road and air certificated models are scheduled by the end of 2018.</div>

The Transit Elevated Bus 
(TEB) is essentially a metro system that hovers above cars and was 
designed to maximize the use of road space.<br />
The revolutionary mode of transport was revealed to the public at the <a href="http://english.chitec.cn/">China Beijing International High-Tech Expo</a> over the weekend.<br />

Designers
 in China claim the innovative transport system should be both 
cost-effective and environmentally friendly. The elevated high-speed bus
 is powered by electricity, which is <a href="http://english.cntv.cn/program/bizasia/20100826/100970.shtml">supplemented by solar energy</a> generated by the roof panels.<br />

 a carrying capacity of 1,200 people at a time, the TEB has the same 
functions as the subway while its cost of construction is less than one

 the company behind the TEB, say construction can be completed in a 
year. Trial operations are due to start in Qinhuangdao City, in north 
China's Hebei Province, in the second half of 2016.<br />
